Walking along in any city in NZ, you’ll find gorgeous walking and biking paths that lead to beautiful open parks and gardens. This got me thinking..How is it that a small island like Oahu has so many cars, limited and often dangerous bike paths, and very few people that walk or bike when our destinations are so close? My answer: short sighted city planning not designed for urban population growth and a culture dependent on fossil fuels. Look at the road construction (more like road retention with all the potholes everywhere) anywhere on the island and you will see that the aim is to hold the status quo, not towards improvements for the future. So yes, any improvements and changes are going to take time and money, but maybe most importantly of all, it will require a drastic paradigm shift away from fossil fuels. My new challenge for me when I return home will be to bike, walk, carpool, and use public transportation as much as possible. Keep Hawaii green.
Finally made it down to Abel Tasman National Park. I was blessed with gorgeous weather! Full day hike was beautiful. The full day kayak adventure was even more amazing. Aotearoa, why must you make it so hard for me to leave you? Heading back up to Auckland tomorrow. One week left, gotta make the most out of it!
